This course is targeted towards auditors new to computer audit or who are interested in expanding their skills into this fast growing field, as well as IIA students studying for their computer audit paper.
The course will cover the following areas:
- The current and future IT environment
Setting the scene. Pace of change in IT. What are the big issues now and in the foreseeable (3 months) future?
- The role of the internal auditor in the computer environment.
The responsibilities and contribution of both the “generalist” and “specialist IT auditor. What are the different types of computer audit?
- Buzzwords and jargon
What do the terms mean and how do you understand them.
- IT Risks and Business Risks including Data Protection and other legislation
The need for risk assessment and the impact of IT on risk and risk management.
- Information Security Management – ISO27001/2
What is this standard all about and why is it important to your business as well as providing an ideal tool for the computer auditor?
- Security Risks on the web
What are the current threats from web sites and how do you know your businesses web applications are secure?
- Installation audit
A guide to the audit of a computer installation including the role of leading computer security products.
- Systems development audit
The why, what, how and when of auditing new systems at the initiation, design, development and implementation stages.
- Business Continuity Planning
How to approach a review of this critical area, along with a demo of what a plan should look like.
- CAAT’s and other computer audit tools
What are they and when should we use them? What are the easiest and most beneficial to use?
