The discussion forum is the place where members can debate internal auditing issues, seek advice and share information. It is simple to use with a few straight forward rules.
To facilitate an open exchange of views in the forum members can, if they wish, retain anonymity. If you want to do this go to the ‘My Profile’ section in the top right hand corner of the Member home page and click on ‘My forum preferences’. (The Member home page is the one you see after you have logged into the IIA website using your membership number and password.)
In ‘My forum preferences’ you can to create or change your nickname that will be displayed when you post or reply to threads on any of our discussion forums. Please note that once you have created your nickname you will need to log out and then log back in again before you can begin posting. If you wish you may also attach an image to your nickname known as a gravatar.
The discussion forum has a number of different categories to make it easy to find topics that interest you. Each category heading highlighted as a blue link will reveal all the discussions in progress for that category. To create a new discussion thread click on the ‘New topic’ button shown under the category title on the left hand side of the page. This will take you to a new screen where you type in a new heading with your enquiry.
Click on the topic heading to read or join a discussion thread. You will notice that posts are made immediately so focus on clarity and review what you written before hitting that reply button. Your posts will get a better response if they are put into context and are thought-provoking.
As part of the exclusive services offered to members of the Heads of Internal Audit Service, we have provided a conference reserved for them to network and to share information with other members. Apart from that all areas of the forum are open to all members.
The forum at the bottom of the categories page entitled ‘Helping the profession’s stakeholders’ is visible to members of the public. This category allows non members to raise questions with the membership of the IIA and view their commentary. The outcomes from this and any other forum discussions may be used by the IIA for further developmental work for the membership or profession.
There is currently no facility available for private messaging within the forums. Those who wish to contact another member by email should contact our technical manager chris.baker@iia.org.uk who acts as moderator.
We have a few simple rules that we hope you will respect:
The discussion forum is meant to encourage the exchange of views and we encourage challenge and new ways of thinking. However, posts that are considered to infringe the rules will be suspended and the poster contacted. In some cases the moderator may suggest changes to the message by email, in these cases the inappropriate content will still be removed from the forum in the interim. The moderator is permitted to amend and change the title of a post without notifying the poster. The purpose of such changes will be to attract more readers to the entry.
The moderator will monitor the number of topics active on the forum at any one time. To ensure that the forum is manageable and easier for members to navigate, topics which receive no response or are out of date will be removed. Where appropriate, topics will be locked, ie it will not be possible to respond to the topic, but members will still be able to view them for reference. Discussion threads that have ongoing value will be retained.
If you would like to make a complaint about a post on the discussion forum please contact our Technical Manager at chris.baker@iia.org.uk, or view the IIA complaints procedure.
