IIA Diploma in Internal Audit Practice study programme

The study programme

IIA Learning offers study programmes for the five theory modules.   We offer two study sessions per year, with each study session  providing you with 20 weeks of study and four to five weeks of exam preparation.   The programme comprises open learning materials, tutor support and revision workshops.

The learning materials
The learning materials for the theory modules comprises of a student handbook containing general guidance relevant to all modules, and study guide and study text for each module.

The study guide is the main source of modular guidance and contains:
  • a table matching the content of the study material with syllabus topics
  • a bank of 20 exam-style questions, with answers, for practice
  • a quiz to help with revision
  • a summary of key topics for revision
  • mock examination with answers

The study text contains most of the learning material you will need for the study session and contains:

Dedicated tutor

We will assign you a dedicated tutor for each theory module on which you are enrolled.   Our highly experienced tutors will help you get the most out of your study materials, and mark and comment on your assignments.   You and your tutor will contact each other by phone, email and post.

Assignments
Assignments form an integral part of your studies as they reinforce and extend your learning.  Your tutor will provide invaluable feedback on your assignments, which will further reinforce your learning.  While your assignment marks do not contribute to your final results, you are required to submit two assignments for each module to be eligible to enter each examination.

Induction days
These are one-day events for students new to the programme. They are held in venues across the country, providing a good opportunity for you to meet other students.

Revision workshops

Each theory module has its own residential revision workshop.   They are designed to help you prepare for the examinations by providing an overview of the syllabus, guidance on examination skills and examination practice.  Each workshop last for two days, except the Accounting and Financial Systems revision school which lasts for three days.

Additional support – mid-session workshops
We also offer one-day mid-session workshops. The workshops, which take place seven to eight weeks into the study session, are aimed at consolidating your studies of units one to six of the study texts, building your knowledge and understanding and introducing you to topics further in your study text. These workshops are optional and have a separate fee.

How do I study?
You can enrol on as many modules as you like for each study session.  However, you should consider the time you can realistically commit to studying when deciding on the number of modules for which to apply, as once accepted on a study session, you cannot defer your studies to subsequent sessions. On average students take two modules per study session.   You should plan to spend about 180 hours on each module, plus two to five days attending face-to-face events.

Where do I start? You can study the modules in any order; however, we strongly recommend you undertake Internal Auditing before Business Information Systems Auditing.

What you will need to do the course

You must be able to receive learning materials by post or courier service. Having an email account and access to a personal computer and the internet would be an advantage, though they are not essential.
