10 February 2006RSM Robson Rhodes has signed up its' risk assurance services team into a new group membership scheme with the Institute of Internal Auditors – UK and Ireland (IIA). The IIA is the only professional body in the UK and Ireland solely dedicated to the profession of internal auditing. The IIA continues to grow with a membership now in excess of 7,400.
The continued rise in membership highlights recognition of internal audit's crucial role in corporate governance. Internal audit has been put firmly in the spotlight, particularly after recent corporate collapses in the US and EU, the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley, the release of the Smith Report and the update of the Turnbull guidance on risk management.
Today's modern internal auditor will need to work across the full range of business areas, providing assurance on the effective management of risk in commercial areas and project management as well as IT and Finance. The scheme ensures all members are kept up to date with the latest developments in the profession and brings opportunities for networking, training and education through IIA qualifications. The scheme requires all members to align fully with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, the global framework defining internal auditing best practice.
