This year, journalist Robert Bruce has been awarded first prize for his article Apathy Rules that appeared in Financial Director magazine in November 2006. His article commented on the FRC's call for greater competition within the audit market.
Robert said of the award,'It is a great privilege to win this award, which represents the heartland of business journalism. This is all about the coverage of how companies and organisations instil ethics, morality and controls within their workings and so ensure that stakeholders, be they investors, employees or ordinary connected citizens, can be secure in their dealings with them. Internal controls, internal audit and corporate governance are now centre stage in any understanding of business life.'
In addition to the main prize the IIA has also awarded two runners up prizes. Both Anthony Hilton's article Corporate Killing that appeared in the Evening Standard and Peter William's article Outside the Box that appeared in Financial Director magazine last year were recognised for their journalistic merit.
IIA President Alec Richmond said of the award, "The winning article is just one of numerous examples of exceptional journalism from a true master of taking sometimes complicated topics, and illuminating them for a wider readership outside the finance community. Robert always has interesting things to say and challenges the status quo - like a good internal auditor "
Robert Bruce will receive £1000 and the two runners up will each receive £500.
