The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors is affiliated to the global Institute of Internal Auditors, located in Altamonte Springs, Florida, USA. Established in 1941, the global Institute represents more than 160,000 members across 165 countries and territories. As one of the top ten internal audit institutes, the IIA Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors has a seat on the global Board of Directors, and also contributes to the work of the Internal Audit Standards Board, a global committee of the IIA.

IIA Global sets the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) - a set of authoritative guidance developed by IIA international technical committees. Members of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors are automatically members of the global Institute and have access to professional guidance and a range of other services through the global website. Members of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors automatically join IIA Global, which represents more than 160,000 internal auditors worldwide and sets the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
