The Retail Audit Group is a very successful informal group that holds meetings in January, May and October each year, currently in Penkridge, just south of Stafford.

The group is run by internal auditors for internal auditors. It is well established and well supported by those involved. The group's membership comes from a wide variety of backgrounds, including most high street names.

The meetings aim to provide relevant topical information and opportunities to build relationships in internal audit circles. In setting the agendas the management team looks for presenters from outside and inside the group and aims to cover high level and more detailed subject matter. Each meeting normally includes a syndicate session and an open forum so that those present can seek information and share experience with other internal auditors.

Listed below are some of the topics recently covered.

  • Is your department ready to be evaluated by your Audit Committee? (KPMG)
  • Chip and PIN – an update (BRC)
  • Giving your Board assurance on Health and Safety (Severn Trent PLC)
  • Update: New Combined Code and other developments (PwC)
  • Auditing unfamiliar areas: are we up to the job? (Ernst & Young)

In addition to the three meetings each year, members find the networking opportunities most valuable. As a member of the group it is possible to ring round other members to discuss issues.
