Nicola - Internal Audit Manager

Nicola“I became involved in delivering and managing internal audit services on an out-sourced basis when working with a professional services firm. I joined the IIA in 2002 after qualifying as a chartered accountant. Even though I was a qualified accountant, I thought there would be value in developing my skills further by taking the IIA’s Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing and Management.”

“Often people fall into internal audit after previously being involved in other areas of an organisation. Like me, they may already be professionally qualified as a chartered accountant or even as a chartered engineer. However, no matter what a person’s background there is differentiated value for those working in internal audit to become professionally qualified via the IIA. In the current environment, it is essential for career progression.”

“Being an IIA member provides access to a professional body of knowledge unique to internal audit. With that come opportunities for interaction with other internal auditors facing the same challenges. I became a volunteer with the Irish District in 2004 and am now the Chairperson. I have particularly enjoyed the opportunities for interaction with other members.”
