The Chartered IIA's operations are delivered by a team of nearly 50 staff, mostly based at our offices in Clapham, London.
Ian has held the position of Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors since June 2009. He was previously Director of External Affairs at the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) from 2001 and before that Deputy Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce. He has also worked for the Confederation of British Industry where he led their work on Small and Medium Enterprises and for international PR agency Burson-Marsteller.
Ian chairs the Independent Monitoring Panel of the UK Chartered Banker Professional Standards Board and has served on a number of government committees. He holds a BA in Geography from the University of Lancaster and a PhD for research into Small Businesses from the University of Southampton.
In 2015, Ian was awarded an MBE for services to regulatory reform and in recognition of his work as a member of the UK Government's Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC).
Stephen joined the Institute in 2006 to direct the work of the finance department and took on the role of company secretary in 2014.
He previously worked for Ernst & Young in varying capacities including as finance director for the financial services office.
Stephen has a BA in accountancy and is a qualified chartered accountant and fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
In 2014, and again in 2018, Stephen was elected as a councillor for the London Borough of Merton where he chairs the Financial Monitoring Task Group.
Phil leads the Chartered IIA's marketing and communications function. This includes overall responsibility for all product marketing activity and strategic development initiatives.
Phil is a chartered marketer and has an MA in strategic marketing. He has held numerous senior leadership roles in the professional body sector and, prior to that, in various of other sectors.
