Board effectiveness and assurance mapping

12 November | Belfast

As a result of increasingly complex operations and rapidly changing risk landscapes, coupled with geographically dispersed business units, there has been an increase in the delivery and reporting of assurance activities using differing approaches and methodologies. An overwhelming amount of information and disparate reports, along with a lack of a standardised reporting to Senior Management and Audit and Risk Committees and Boards, only adds to this complexity.

Assurance mapping supports organisations in setting enterprise wide priorities for the delivery of harmonised assurance activities. Key benefits include:

  • An integrated risk taxonomy across all functions and governance bodies within the organisation, providing a single source of truth
  • Co-ordinated and relevant assurance efforts focusing on key risk exposures
  • Comprehensive and prioritised tracking of remedial action on identified improvement opportunities/ weaknesses
  • The collection and reporting of assurance information across silos
  • A common view of issues, risks, and controls across the organisation, and improved reporting to the Board and its sub-Committees.

What will I learn?

  • A ‘how to’ in initiating an assurance mapping process for your organisation
  • An overview of the tools and techniques that may be used to support an organisation in its efforts to advance combined assurance practices
