Welcome to the South West committee

The South West committee has a proven track record of providing excellent, enjoyable events and functions to engage its members and inform their learning.

The committee occupies an idyllic part of the UK stretching from Cornwall to Dorset in the east and north to Gloucestershire. In an area that provides the perfect platform for spreading the word of the Institute regionally.

Meet the team

Darren Cooper, CMIIA/CIA, Chair

Darren Cooper is currently a Senior Audit Manager for Nationwide and has worked in audit roles in both the public and private sector for over 10 years. Prior to joining the audit profession, he worked as a Counter Fraud Specialist.

After attending many South West regional events, he joined the committee as a volunteer in 2017 and is currently Chair.

Darren said: “The South West committee plays a vital role in sharing skills, knowledge and experience across our membership network and I’m delighted that I can play a part in that”

John Chesshire CFIIA, Vice Chair

John holds several senior internal audit and risk management positions and runs a successful internal audit consultancy and training business. Until December 2020, he was the Chief Assurance Officer for the Government of Guernsey.

John is a Fellow of the Institute with over 20 years’ experience in internal audit, risk management and governance roles. He has been closely involved with the South West committee for much of this time - as a delegate at events, a volunteer and now as Vice Chair.

In 2019, John received our JJ Morris Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contribution to internal audit.
