Key Takeaways

Comments from Derek Jamieson, Head of Member Services

The agenda for today's meeting was originally to be the IPPF. This will now be addressed in our March meeting thereby providing an extra month to digest the new standards before we meet.  Instead, we focussed again on our upcoming research work which will look at the health of the internal audit provision in local authorities.

We welcomed members of the Internal Audit Forum which represent internal audit providers to Parish and Town Councils and were given an insight to their recent and current working environment.

We then discussed the significance of the current situation and shared some examples of issues currently facing some internal audit teams.

The institute shared an overview of the methodology which we will apply for our work and the rigor which will be applied. Finally, we introduced some of the members of a small volunteer group who we will work with to ensure our work is appropriately focussed and with whom we will discuss some of our initial findings.

Finally, our CEO, Anne Kiem emphasised the importance of the work we are about to begin and encouraged all Chief Audit Officers in the local authority community to respond to the survey.

Our work will commence in April and is currently scheduled for reporting in June.
