CIA exams

Exams for the Certified Internal Auditor are held at over 100 Pearson Vue centres in the UK and Ireland. This makes the exam-taking process flexible as you can choose a convenient date to fit in around your work and life, and there's bound to be a centre nearby. You can take the exams on any day you choose, subject to availability.

CIA exams are computer-based and multiple-choice, and you'll get your result the same day.

What's the pass mark?

There is no fixed pass mark for any of the CIA exams. Each exam comprises a set of questions that tests knowledge and understanding across the CIA syllabus topics. The questions vary in terms of difficulty and the marks awarded. Candidates’ scores are subject to a scaling exercise to ensure they are assessed fairly and to a common benchmark.

It is therefore not possible to give either a precise percentage or number of marks required to achieve a pass, this will vary depending on the actual questions presented to the candidate.

Syllabus changes in 2019

The CIA exam syllabus will change in January 2019. There's nothing for students to worry about – you won't lose credit for any parts from the existing syllabus. Students can pass the CIA by passing a mix of 'old' and 'new' parts.

Learning materials will be updated in due course and we will run workshops on both the old and new syllabus in the latter part of 2018.
